Covid-19? What Else Could Happen?
Study Suggests One In Three US Contractors With COVID-19 Will Have Psychological or Neurological Disorders
A recent study of over 230,000 COVID Patients found an increased likelihood of neurological and psychological disorders for those diagnosed with COVID-19 versus the flu. “After taking into account underlying health characteristics, such as age, sex, ethnicity and existing health conditions, there was overall a 44% greater risk of neurological and mental health diagnoses after COVID-19 than after flu.”
An author of the Oxford Study found “high rates of psychiatric diagnoses after Covid-19,” and serious disorders including anxiety, substance abuse, depression and even “stroke and dementia are brought on by COVID in some cases.”
A CNBC article notes “A previous observational study by the same research group reported that Covid-19 survivors are at increased risk of mood and anxiety disorders in the first three months after infection. However, until now, there have been no large-scale data examining the risks of neurological as well as psychiatric diagnoses in the six months after Covid-19 infection,” per the Oxford Department of Psychology.
With so many US contractors infected with COVID-19 while in international locations, there have been an increase in COVID-19 related claims being filed and many fail to recognize the potential for recovery for more chronic neurological and psychological conditions that this massive study shows to be increased by COVID-19. If you or someone you know is a U.S. contractor with COVID-19 and you now have psychiatric or neurological conditions, you may have a claim for benefits under U.S. Law even if you previously settled a claim during your initial COVID-19 treatment.
